We had planned a campout and hike at Picacho Peak but after a continuous week of heavy rain and a forcast that included a high probability of heavy rain on Friday night, we changed the plan to a Saturday hike down at Picacho Peak. Picacho Peak is at Exit 191 on I-10 just north of Tucson. We gathered at 6:00 am and it took us about an hour and a half to get to the state park. Since this state park is slated to close later this spring due to budget problems, it was good we were able to go before it closes. The only young man able to attend was Max, but we are glad he came so we could hold the activity. In addition to Max, Bro. Sharpe, Bro. Selin, and Bro. Selin's son Scott came along for the experience.
We were the first car through the gates in the morning and the first one in the parking lot at the Hunter Trailhead. Initially the skys look threatening, but after a short time they cleared up and it was a perfect day for the hike. It took us about 2 hours to reach the top, from which we could see for miles and miles. The rain not only cleared the air but it also caused a bit of flooding to the south of the mountain. The view was great.
Here is a little slideshow of our activity.
On a scale of 1 to 10 (10 is the best), Max rates this hike a 10.
